At least 45 individuals were taken into custody in Paris on Saturday following chaotic celebrations over Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Champions League victory. Fires were set, businesses were vandalized, and clashes occurred with law enforcement.
Following PSG’s triumph, large crowds gathered around significant landmarks, including the Arc de Triomphe. Reports indicate that some fans ignited flares and honked car horns, contributing to the disorder.
Police faced the challenge of managing thousands on the Champs-Élysées. A group of individuals attempted to break into a police station in the capital city. Authorities reported that some vandals damaged shops and vehicles, setting some of them on fire. Both a bakery and a restaurant sustained damage during these events.

In addition, people temporarily blocked the main ring road around Paris before police could disperse them. One law enforcement officer sustained injuries, according to official reports. By 10 p.m. local time, authorities had detained at least 45 individuals.
Celebrations dominated the city after PSG defeated Arsenal in the Champions League final, marking the club’s significant accomplishment in European football.
Violent celebrations are not new following PSG’s Champions League successes. Last year, after a similar victory, 201 injuries were reported in Paris, and over 500 arrests were made throughout France.
