2 months ago 0

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday night as an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) helicopter crashed while en route to a shooting, resulting in the deaths of two individuals aboard. The helicopter was dispatched to assist the Flagstaff Police Department in addressing an active shooter scenario in the area when the accident occurred, according to a statement from AZDPS.

Sadly, the crash claimed the lives of both the pilot and the trooper-paramedic aboard the helicopter. While authorities have confirmed these deaths, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed to the public at this time.

The details surrounding the cause of the helicopter’s crash remain unclear. Furthermore, it is not yet known if the shooting incident played any direct role in the helicopter’s downing. When questioned, AZDPS did not provide additional information regarding either the shooting or the circumstances that led to the crash.

Prior to the helicopter accident, local law enforcement officers were engaged in a confrontation with the suspect involved in the shooting. The suspect has since been apprehended and is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. Luckily, no additional injuries were reported among civilians or officers.

The helicopter involved was identified as a Bell 407, which went down near Flagstaff at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will oversee the investigation into the crash, with collaboration from both the AZDPS major incident division and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

This event underscores the inherent dangers faced by those who serve in law enforcement and emergency response roles. Those affected by the crash are in the thoughts of many as authorities work diligently to uncover the reasons behind this tragic loss.
