A recent video has gone viral, capturing a North Carolina congressional candidate, Katie Barr, admitting to identifying as a “progressive” despite running as a Republican. During a podcast interview on “The Hometown Holler,” Barr was questioned, “Are you trying to trick people?”
Barr, who is campaigning in North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District, responded, “If you visit my campaign website, right at the top, I mention, ‘I’m not a real Republican.’ I explain to people that while I’m participating in the Republican primary, I am a progressive. I can’t align myself with the Democratic Party anymore.” According to Barr, she is not attempting any deception, but rather desires to be completely honest with voters about her intentions if elected.

During a high-profile podcast appearance, progressive candidate Kate Barr discussed her reasons for running in the Republican primary. On November 6th, Barr officially filed to campaign against current Representative Tim Moore, R-N.C., for the 14th Congressional District seat. On her website’s homepage, Barr outlines her reason for running as a Republican: “It’s the only way to get these corrupt officials out of office.” She accuses Republicans of “rigging the maps” to guarantee their wins “every time.”
Barr’s campaign website further elaborates, “The general election is already determined. Therefore, the primary is the only race that matters for this position.”

Representative Tim Moore, R-N.C., is facing a primary challenge from Barr, a self-proclaimed progressive running as a Republican. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Barr emphasized her transparency regarding her political stance and future governance plans.
“Tim Moore is ineffective for voters in district 14,” Barr expressed. “He’s benefiting financially from his role while the constituents suffer. And Tim manipulated the district’s boundaries to secure his position despite everything. This isn’t right. I’m running to provide voters with a genuine choice.”
Barr’s strategy has spurred criticism online, with some describing her tactics as dishonest and disgraceful. Nevertheless, at least one conservative commentator views Barr’s approach with less urgency. On the social media platform X, Second Amendment advocate Cam Edwards commented on the video, saying, “I hate to burst the outrage bubble, but she’s not hiding this. It’s central to her campaign and clearly stated on her website.”
