Fulton County Seeks Return of 2020 Election Materials Seized by FBI

Officials in Fulton County, Georgia, have taken legal action to retrieve ballots and election-related materials from the 2020 election that were recently seized by the FBI. On Tuesday, they filed a motion requesting the federal court to mandate the return of approximately 656 boxes of original election documents. The motion, currently under seal, aims to recover these materials, which include all ballots, tabulator tapes from vote-tallying scanners, electronic ballot images, and voter rolls.

The FBI had conducted a search on January 28 at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center located in Union City, Georgia, near Atlanta. This search was primarily focused on records connected to the 2020 general election. The county is seeking to prevent the federal government from accessing, analyzing, or utilizing the seized materials while the motion is pending.

“This morning’s filing could not have come fast enough; justice delayed is justice denied,” stated Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington, whose district includes the election’s headquarters. “The people of Fulton County deserve justice now, and that’s why I pushed so hard to get this motion filed as soon as possible.”

Fulton County has faced increased attention following President Donald Trump’s defeat by President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Although Biden won Georgia, Trump has repeatedly claimed that voter fraud contributed to his loss in the state.

County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts addressed these claims, stating, “The president himself and his allies, they refuse to accept the fact that they lost. And even if he had won Georgia, he would still have lost the presidency.” Pitts reaffirmed the integrity of the county’s election processes, noting that Fulton has successfully conducted 17 elections since 2020 without incident.

Pitts emphasized that the case extends beyond Fulton County and is indicative of electoral issues across Georgia and the nation. He referred to Trump’s recent remarks on a podcast where the former president encouraged Republicans to “take over” and “nationalize” elections. A White House spokesperson clarified that Trump was alluding to legislative initiatives.

Last month, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump called for legal actions related to the 2020 election, stating, “People will soon be prosecuted for what they did.” Fox News Digital has reached out to the Justice Department, but the FBI has declined to comment on the ongoing matter.
