Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., has emphasized that the United States remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice for the Americans killed in terrorist acts. This commitment was highlighted by the recent arrest of Zubayr Al-Bakoush, who is believed to be one of the masterminds behind the 2012 Benghazi consulate attack.
Speaking on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Pirro expressed that the United States is actively working to bring those responsible to justice, even years after the tragic events. “The American cavalry never came, to our disappointment, in 2012,” Pirro remarked. “We’re coming for you now. We’ve got him. We’ve got a lot more coming,” she added, signaling ongoing efforts to hold perpetrators accountable.
The Department of Justice, in a statement delivered on February 6, 2026, announced that the FBI had apprehended Zubayr Al-Bakoush, a suspect from the 2012 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya. This announcement was a significant step forward in bringing justice for the attack that claimed four American lives.
Pirro criticized the response of the then-President Barack Obama and his administration, asserting that they failed to deliver adequate consequences for Al-Bakoush and others linked to the attack. She referred to the tragic incident, where four Americans were killed, as a well-coordinated terrorist assault rather than a mere protest gone wrong.
“The president said we did everything we could. They didn’t do everything they could,” Pirro stated, highlighting the public’s dismay over the government’s response at the time.
The attack on September 11, 2012, saw armed assailants, with weapons like AK-47 rifles and grenades, storm the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi, resulting in chaos and devastation. Zubayr Al-Bakoush was charged with murder, terrorism, and arson upon his recent arrival in Virginia to face federal charges.
Pirro alleged that the Obama administration had early knowledge of the attack being a coordinated strike but failed to take necessary protective actions. She questioned why measures such as deploying F-16s or sending a rapid response team, which could have reached the location swiftly, were not considered.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the charges against Al-Bakoush, expressing optimism for justice on behalf of the affected families. Pirro concluded with criticism of the misinformation spread during the event and credited former President Donald Trump for strides made toward accountability.
