Milan, Italy — American skiing sensation, Lindsay Vonn, took to the slopes on Friday for an official Olympic training session in women’s downhill skiing. This marked her first appearance at the Winter Games following an unfortunate incident where she ruptured her left ACL in a World Cup race in the Swiss Alps just a week prior.

Friday’s training run was the initial official downhill session to precede the Games, as the event previously scheduled for Thursday faced cancellation due to adverse weather conditions. Despite initial weather-related delays on Friday, Vonn successfully completed her run without any visible complications. Her first competitive Olympic event, the women’s downhill, is slated for Sunday.

“I haven’t cried. I haven’t deviated from my plan,”

Vonn expressed at a news conference on Tuesday when addressing her injury. “Normally, in the past, there’s always a moment where you break down and realize the severity of things and that your dreams are slipping through your fingers. But I didn’t have that this time. I’m not letting this slip through my fingers. I’m gonna do it. End of story.”

Her fellow U.S. alpine skiers conveyed their confidence in her ability to compete, even with her injury, in conversations with CBS News on Thursday.

If anyone can come back from this, if anyone could do it, it’s Lindsey, remarked Team USA skier Isabella Wright while training with other U.S. athletes in the gym. They are stationed in the northern Italian Dolomites, specifically in Cortina, where the alpine events unfold.

Vonn’s teammate, Breezy Johnson, commented, “If it’s your last Games, and you know, already probably have a lot of knee damage, then there’s not that much to lose.”

Another teammate, Jacqueline Wiles, who has shared the slopes with Vonn, described her as “definitely one of the toughest.”

“I think any time you’re injured, trying to fight through that injury while you’re still competing, while the season’s going on, it definitely can get in your head,” Wiles added. “But she’s been through it more than anyone.”
