1 month ago 0

The former girlfriend of Norwegian Olympic medalist Sturla Holm Laegreid has recently spoken out regarding the athlete’s public admission of a personal mistake at the Winter Olympics. Laegreid confessed that he cheated on his then-girlfriend three months into their six-month relationship. In response, she communicated to a Norwegian news outlet, indicating her unwillingness to reconcile.

“It is hard to forgive. Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world. I did not choose to end up in this situation and it hurts to have to be in it. We have been in contact and he is aware of my views on this,” she told VG.

The woman, who requested to remain anonymous, expressed gratitude for the support she received from her family, friends, and others who sympathized with her situation. Meanwhile, Laegreid emotionally shared his feelings after winning a bronze medal in the men’s 20-kilometer individual biathlon race during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Anterselva, Italy.

During an emotional moment at the event, Laegreid described the incident as “the biggest mistake” of his life. While addressing the public and the media, he referred to his former girlfriend as the “love of his life” and the “most beautiful and kindest person in the world.” Reflecting on his remorse, he revealed, I told her about it a week ago. It’s been the worst week of my life.

Despite his sporting success, including being part of Norway’s relay team that won gold at the Beijing Olympics, Laegreid was visibly overwhelmed, displaying tears and embracing colleagues after the race. He then explained his reasons for publicly sharing his personal ordeal, It was the choice I made. We make different choices during our life and that’s how we make life. So today I made a choice to tell the world what I did, so maybe, maybe there is a chance she will see what she really means to me. Maybe not.

These revelations, Laegreid acknowledged, may change public perception of him, but he insisted that his focus remains on her. There are probably many who look at me with different eyes, but I only have eyes for her, he added. Describing a shift in his priorities, he admitted that sports had taken on a different meaning for him in recent days.

Later, during another media session, Laegreid expressed regret over taking attention away from his teammate Johan-Olav Botn, who secured the gold medal in the same event. He commented, Now I hope I didn’t ruin Johan’s day. Maybe it was really selfish of me to give that interview. With emotions running high, he confessed to feeling a bit detached from his surroundings, adding I’m not really here mentally. So yeah, we will see what happens.

American Ashley Farquharson also made headlines by winning a rare Olympic luge medal at the Winter Games, an exciting development covered separately.
