Poland Investigates Possible Epstein and Russian Intelligence Links

2 months ago 0

On Wednesday, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the government will investigate connections between Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, and Russian intelligence services. This decision comes amidst a growing concern that the scandal surrounding Epstein may extend beyond criminal justice and impact national security within Europe.

Tusk made the announcement in a video shared on social media, highlighting the formation of an analytical team. This team will explore whether Polish children might have been victims of criminal networks tied to Epstein. The Prime Minister emphasized, “We cannot allow any cases involving the abuse of Polish children by this network, orchestrated by Mr. Epstein, to be overlooked.” He further mentioned, without much detail, initial information suggesting contacts from Krakow informed Epstein about acquiring Polish girls or women.

We have decided to establish an analytical team and possibly also to launch an investigation if our concerns over the scandal involving pedophilia in the U.S. are confirmed.

Tusk, during a news conference in Kobylka, underscored the importance of clarifying any links between Epstein, his network, and Russian special services in the context of Polish state security. Although he didn’t delve into specific connections, Tusk referenced the recent release of documents by the U.S. Department of Justice, which expanded to around 3 million pages related to the Epstein case. The documentation revealed new details regarding Epstein’s international contact network, bringing to light what Tusk termed “Polish threads” in the scandal.

The Prime Minister described the situation as an “unprecedented case” and stated, “Prosecutors and special services will conduct a comprehensive and prompt analysis, examining every file.” Beyond crimes targeting Polish citizens, Tusk acknowledged media reports that indicated the possibility of Russian security services using Epstein’s operations to amass compromising information on influential individuals, thereby posing potential threats to democratic systems and national security.

The investigative team, led by Poland’s justice minister and prosecutor general, will encompass prosecutors, police, and national security personnel. Government representatives noted the team would operate under classified procedures and start its work immediately. Poland also plans to request unpublished evidence from the U.S. concerning any Polish nationals included in the investigation and might push for international cooperation in further examining the case.

While Russia has downplayed accusations of its involvement with the Epstein affair, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, in December dismissed the allegations as exposing Western hypocrisy.
