As the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of ‘Today’ show co-host Savannah Guthrie, continues into its fifth day, authorities intensify their efforts to uncover any clues regarding the suspect or suspects involved and the motive behind her disappearance. Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing on Sunday in Arizona after failing to attend church, prompting her family to make desperate appeals for her safe return.
On Saturday night, Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. after having dinner at her daughter Annie’s house. Her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, dropped her off at her home and waited for her to enter before leaving. On Sunday morning, when Nancy did not arrive at church, a friend alerted her family. Concerned, they reported her missing to the local sheriff’s department by noon. Upon arrival, the police found her disappearance under worrying circumstances and began an urgent search.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos declared on Monday that Nancy Guthrie’s case is being treated as a crime. He urged neighbors to examine their home video footage for any useful information. “We discovered concerning things at the home,” said Sheriff Nanos, confirming the presence of a crime scene and soliciting community help.
A missing person’s flyer released by the department describes Nancy as having limited mobility and requiring daily medication. The flyer details her as standing 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes, and weighing around 150 pounds. “I believe she was abducted,” Nanos stated, expressing his belief that she did not leave the house voluntarily.
On Tuesday, authorities announced they were investigating a possible ransom note and blood found near the crime scene. As they analyzed these unsettling clues, Sheriff Nanos reiterated their open approach to tips, coordinating with the FBI on all leads. Unfortunately, video surveillance from the home failed to provide any solid suspects.
On Wednesday morning, there was still no identified suspect or person of interest. Later that evening, the FBI conducted another thorough search of Nancy’s home with canines, exploring every potential lead. In a heartfelt video, Savannah Guthrie beseeched anyone holding her mother to contact the family. “We need certainty that she is alive and safe,” she pleaded, revealing the emotional strain on the family due to Nancy’s fragile health. Savannah Guthrie assured that their family is “ready to talk,” urging communication with possible captors.
The video coincided with President Trump’s public commitment to the family, stating all federal law enforcement resources were being directed towards the case. “We are deploying all resources to bring her home safely,” he announced over social media.
By Thursday, the call for public assistance continued, as authorities stress the importance of community involvement. Chief of detectives,Fabian Pacheco, emphasized the critical need for information in this case. “It only takes one tip to break the case open,” he stated on ‘CBS Mornings.’ Around 10% of those leads have already been found meaningful. Anyone with potential information is urged to contact authorities at (520)-882-7463.
