The relentless search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a ‘Today’ show host, has entered its fifth day, with her family fervently seeking her safe return. Authorities suspect she was abducted while sleeping at her Arizona home early Sunday, but no suspects or persons of interest have been identified, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is scheduled to provide a briefing on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET regarding the ongoing investigation. Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was last seen Saturday night at her residence in the Catalina Foothills, located north of Tucson. The family reported her missing on Sunday after she failed to appear at church services, leading to a flurry of search efforts.
In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Savannah Guthrie, alongside her siblings, made a public appeal for their mother’s return. “Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere,” Savannah Guthrie expressed emotionally. “We will not rest; your children will not rest until we are together again.”

Nancy is known to have certain physical ailments and limited mobility, but she does not suffer from cognitive impairments, the sheriff reported. More critically, she requires medication which, if not taken within 24 hours, could lead to fatal consequences.
“Our mom is our heart and our home,” Savannah Guthrie shared. “She is 84 years old, with fragile health and constant pain. Deprived of her medicine, she is at significant risk.” The FBI is actively assisting in the investigation, dispatching additional agents and specialists to aid local law enforcement efforts in Pima County, according to sources from ABC News.
Investigators have been reviewing potential ransom communications as part of their inquiry. ABC Tucson affiliate KGUN reported receiving one such letter, which has been handed over to law enforcement for verification. Officials are examining the legitimacy of these documents.
Discussing the supposed ransom note, Savannah Guthrie asserted on Wednesday, “Our family is doing all we can. We are prepared to negotiate. Nevertheless, in a world where media can be manipulated, we need assurance of her well-being and proof of life before proceeding. We appeal for confirmation and direct communication.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information to immediately contact 911 or reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
