During the “All-American Halftime Show” organized by Turning Point USA on Sunday, a heartfelt tribute was paid to the organization’s founder, Charlie Kirk, as part of Kid Rock’s performance. This show, featuring artists such as Lee Brice, Gabby Barrett, and Brantley Gilbert, served as a counterprogramming option to the Super Bowl LX halftime show.
Kid Rock’s set concluded with a visual homage to Kirk, displaying images of Kirk with his family on the big screens surrounding the stage, accompanied by the words “In remembrance of Charlie Kirk.” This dedication came in the wake of Kirk’s assassination in September during a speech at Utah Valley University.
Throughout the performance, the focus was on patriotic themes, contrasting the Super Bowl show that spotlighted Bad Bunny. Starting the program, Brantley Gilbert voiced his passion for core American values, donning a “God, family, country” T-shirt.
The event attracted a significant viewership, with the YouTube livestream drawing over 4.8 million viewers. Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of the War Department, mentioned that he and his family also watched the show.
Andrew Kolvet of Turning Point USA emphasized the intent of the event in a news release, stating, “The ‘All-American Halftime Show’ offers an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a show that celebrates faith, family, and freedom, free of any other agendas. Our goal was to provide excellent entertainment for families gathered for the big game.”
Brantley Gilbert, sharing his motivation for participating, expressed his journey as a musician from Jackson County, Georgia. “As a recovering addict who has learned from past mistakes, my music carries my story to inspire others. I’m proud to be a husband and father and to honor those who fight for our country,” he explained.
