Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith has publicly criticized the former first lady, Jill Biden, for her comments related to her husband, Joe Biden’s, debate performance. Smith spoke about this in a recent episode of his “Straight Shooter” podcast, highlighting what he views as damaging actions by some Democrats to their party’s image.
During the podcast, Smith referred to Jill Biden’s promotion of her new memoir, “View From the East Wing.” He noted that while Jill Biden and other Democrats initially portrayed Joe Biden’s health positively during the 2024 debates, she disclosed in her book that she was worried Joe might be having a stroke during the debate against former President Donald Trump.
“You had commentators literally say on national television, he looked like an elderly patient in a nursing home waiting for his applesauce to be fed to him,” Smith stated. “And this woman, his wife, the former first lady, goes out there in front of the microphones with the cameras working and says, ‘You were wonderful. You answered all the questions.’ Really?”
Smith criticized Jill Biden for waiting until the release of a book to admit her concerns about Joe Biden’s performance, claiming it was a bad timing for Democrats ahead of the midterm elections.
“With gubernatorial races set to come about, with mayoral races coming about, with the midterms coming about, you’re going to go out there on center stage and admit on behalf of the Democratic Party that you and the rest of them were lying through their teeth,” Smith said. “And you think that’s going to help y’all win?”
Smith emphasized that actions like these are making Republicans more confident to run in historically Democratic regions.
“This kind of nonsense is what I’m talking about. This is the kind of stuff that’s got to be eradicated,” Smith warned.
Despite criticisms, Smith clarified that his remarks are designed to strengthen the Democratic approach, urging them to be strategic and truthful to avoid losses.
“I’m being pro-Democrat. I’m trying to tell you how to win, and how to avoid losing, and looking like a bunch of lying a–es,” he explained.
Former first lady Jill Biden had previously congratulated Joe Biden after the debate, saying, “Joe, you did such a great job! You answered every question, you knew all the facts!” However, in her memoir, she revealed they both realized the debate performance was poor, and she initially believed Joe had a stroke.
Fox News Digital reached out to Biden’s office for comment, though no response was immediate.
