The crash was first reported by the New York Times. The Strait of Hormuz, where approximately 20% of the global oil supply passes, has been largely closed since the war began due to Iran’s blockade. The European Union’s council accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy of undermining navigation freedom by imposing a toll and threatening commercial vessels.
President Trump emphasized that keeping this crucial shipping lane open is a priority. He discussed the progress of a peace agreement with Iran, saying, “We’re in the final stages of securing an agreement that completely forbids nuclear weapons.” He further assured, “The strait will reopen immediately upon signing the deal, which might happen in the next two or three days.”
