The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is requesting the public’s assistance in finding several men accused of attacking a San Antonio Spurs fan on Monday. This followed the New York Knicks’ loss in an NBA Finals game.

The NYPD released several photos of the suspects allegedly involved in the incident. The attack took place outside a watch party at Bryant Park for Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, held on June 8, 2026, in New York City.

In response to the incident, the NYPD and the Secret Service canceled an NBA Finals watch party near Madison Square Garden. Fans were advised to arrive two hours early for Monday’s game due to increased security requirements for U.S. President Donald Trump’s attendance.

The alleged assailants reportedly punched and kicked the victim before tearing off his Spurs jersey. This occurred at around 12:17 a.m., according to police reports. The 39-year-old victim was heading to his hotel when he was confronted by the group. After the assault, the suspects escaped on foot to an undisclosed location.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The NYPD shared photos from their investigation as they continue to seek information about the assailants.

This violent event followed a chaotic NBA Finals viewing party in Manhattan. Some disgruntled Knicks fans reacted to the team’s loss by climbing light poles, throwing objects at officers, and ripping street signs.

The unruly behavior occurred near Madison Square Garden. The area was mostly restricted to the public due to President Trump’s attendance, affecting the usual gathering of jubilant fans celebrating the Knicks’ historical playoff performance.

The police reported a total of eight arrests, including two for assaulting a police officer. Additionally, 13 others received criminal court summonses.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
