Dallas Cowboys Face Challenges Despite Securing George Pickens

2 weeks ago 0

The Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver George Pickens with a one-year franchise tag deal, yet challenges remain for the star player. The main issue is his potential attendance at the team’s mandatory minicamp next week. He previously missed the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb express confidence that Pickens will report to the facility as expected. However, given Pickens’ previous defiance of authority during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, some remain uncertain of his attendance.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio cautioned Pickens on the importance of his presence at the minicamp. “Pickens needs to attend next week’s mandatory minicamp, as failing to appear after signing the tender could lead to questions about his intentions,” Florio stated. “Missing could cost him $100,000 in fines, especially since he has already accepted the tender.”

The situation leaves the Cowboys questioning if Pickens is prepared to address concerns and aim for a significant future contract. Concerns persist about a possible holdout or trade request. However, reports indicate that Dallas plans to retain Pickens, and Pickens shows commitment to playing the 2026 season, with hopes of a lucrative contract extension afterward.
