Henry Ruggs III Denied Parole, Faces Continued Incarceration

2 weeks ago 0

The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners recently denied Henry Ruggs III’s request for parole. Ruggs, a former Las Vegas Raiders player, is serving a prison sentence related to a 2021 vehicular accident that resulted in a fatality. Unless circumstances change, he may remain incarcerated until his mandatory parole release date in 2027.

In 2021, Ruggs was involved in a high-speed crash where his vehicle, traveling at 156 mph, collided with a car driven by Tina Tintor. Both Tintor and her dog, Max, lost their lives in the ensuing fire. Ruggs’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.16, surpassing the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Following the incident, Ruggs pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in May 2023. He received a three-to-10-year imprisonment sentence in August 2023. This effectively halted his NFL career, although he might consider a return if released before the 2027 season, at which point he would be 28.

During his incarceration, Ruggs has worked towards rehabilitation. He completed a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and took part in various prison programs, including working at the Nevada governor’s mansion under a state program. Despite these efforts and his expressions of remorse, the parole board remained unswayed.

The Associated Press indicates that Ruggs will have another opportunity to appeal to the parole board three months prior to his potential release. However, the decision remains unchanged for now.
