Trump Addresses Vandalism and Algae Issues at Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial sustained damage from vandals. This comes after recent renovations valued at $14.8 million aimed at revitalizing the pool.

Trump highlighted that crime rates in Washington, D.C., have notably decreased during his presidency. However, he expressed concern over vandalism at the Reflecting Pool, located between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

“Things are really looking good in our Nation’s Capital,” Trump wrote, adding, “we’ve had some real problems with Vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool.”

An incident involved the destruction of grass surrounding the pool and damage to the newly installed inner surface. Trump stated that chemicals were used similarly to what was previously seen on the National Mall.

Earlier, officials noted a message, “86 47,” was etched into the grass near the National Mall. This message was interpreted as threatening, with “86” denoting removal and “47” alluding to Trump as the 47th president.

Following the renovation completion on June 6, algae began appearing in the pool. Efforts to mitigate this included deploying chemicals and ozone nanobubbles and using a vacuum system to clean the pool.

The National Park Service assured that these activities pose no threat to marine life or the environment.

Trump mentioned that 75% of the algae has been cleared and that the vandalized area is minor. Repairs are expected to finish by the next week. He confirmed ongoing investigations into the vandalism, with National Guard personnel and U.S. Park Police overseeing the area.

Images on social media displayed gatherings near the pool, with some criticizing the renovations, while others appeared to celebrate the algae presence. Fox News Digital sought comments from the White House on the issue.
