Former Iowa news anchor Dustin Nolan clarified his recent viral farewell from KWQC TV6. He emphasized the importance of facts, journalism, and truthfulness. In his statement, Nolan expressed disappointment over the way his message has been distorted.
Nolan’s farewell announcement during a KWQC TV6 broadcast explained his decision to leave the news industry. He stressed the significance of his role in journalism.
“Journalism matters,” Nolan stated. “Being truthful matters.”
Nolan elaborated on his decision, saying it was made months in advance with his wife’s support, and that it was not due to any negative circumstances at the station or in the industry. He intended to follow a personal dream.
He voiced concerns over publications twisting his comments. Some outlets reported his decision inaccurately, suggesting it was a stance against journalism.
Nolan criticized these publications for not seeking context and for involving his family’s privacy without consent.
“You’re part of the problem,” Nolan stated. “Our world needs strong journalists now more than ever.”
While he did not disclose his future plans, Nolan expressed gratitude to the Quad Cities community for their support following his departure.
Nolan reaffirmed his appreciation for the audience, thanking them for welcoming him into their homes daily. He reiterated his surprise over how his farewell message was misinterpreted.
Dustin Nolan had been with KWQC TV6 since 2022, receiving a Mid-America Emmy with his wife for Best Morning/Daytime newscast.
