Flatbush Girl: An Advocate for Orthodox Women Seeking Divorce

1 month ago 0

Adina Sash, known online as Flatbush Girl, actively uses social media to assist Orthodox Jewish women. Her focus is on those trying to obtain a Jewish divorce, or get, from husbands unwilling to grant one. Sash employs her skills to publicly name and shame these men.

In March, Sash received messages about a man on a podcast discussing Jewish divorce under a false name. Listeners identified him as Raphi Stein, who had not granted his wife a get. For Sash, this highlighted an opportunity to act.

Sash is a vocal supporter of agunot (or “chained women”). She regarded Stein as a get refuser. Seeing this, she quickly took to social media to call out the podcast platform and gathered information from her followers. At the time, she had not spoken to Stein’s wife, Adeena Kohn, but learned her identity later through connections.

Sash campaigns for agunot and occasionally receives payment for her efforts. In the case involving Stein and Kohn, Sash opted to crowdfund resources for intervention, even without Kohn’s involvement.
