Iran Issues Warning Amid Khamenei Funeral and Diplomatic Talks

A senior Iranian military official issued a warning to the United States and Israel against attacks on the country. This comes as Iran prepares for funeral ceremonies honoring former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

We warn the enemies of Iran, especially the U.S. and the Zionist regime, to avoid any miscalculation and to think about the harsh retaliation our armed forces would make to any threat and aggression against our country, said Ali Abdollahi, commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.

Khamenei, who led Iran for nearly four decades, was killed in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on February 28. His funeral is scheduled for July 9, with numerous Shiite Muslims expected to attend from across Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Pakistan.

This event coincides with discussions between Iranian and U.S. officials about reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending regional hostilities. Recent negotiations in Doha saw U.S. representation by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The talks focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil and gas shipments.

Vice President Vance stated that these talks are progressing well but emphasized that the U.S. might resume strikes if Iran’s actions against commercial shipping persist and if its nuclear program continues.
