Seven individuals sustained injuries in two separate shootings that occurred on the same block in West Garfield Park, Chicago. These incidents took place early Sunday, according to police reports. Most victims were teenagers.
The first incident involved a 17-year-old girl shot in the chest around 1:25 a.m. on the 3800 block of W. Maypole Ave. She was taken to Stroger Hospital and remains in critical condition.
Approximately ten minutes after the first shooting, six people were shot on the same block. Police stated that the group, mostly comprising teenagers, was standing outside when they were hit by gunfire at about 1:34 a.m. The victims include two boys aged 17, a woman and a man aged 18, and two men aged 19 and 20. All victims are recovering in good condition at Stroger and Mt. Sinai hospitals.
A third incident occurred around 1:48 a.m., involving a 33-year-old man found with gunshot wounds on the 4300 block of W. Van Buren St., approximately a mile from the earlier incidents. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
The police and Area Four Detectives continue to investigate these events.
