Matt Damon’s Gluten-Free Lifestyle

4 weeks ago 0

Matt Damon, known for his transformational roles, recently spoke about a dramatic lifestyle change prompted by his preparation for ‘The Odyssey’. During a podcast with Amy Poehler, Damon revealed his decision to eliminate gluten from his diet permanently. He described the change as life-altering, particularly during his intense training for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film.

For ‘The Odyssey’, Damon targeted a high school-era weight of 167 pounds. He cited the absence of gluten as a pivotal factor in achieving this goal. Eating less and keeping workouts focused helped create a sharp physical change. He emphasized the uncomplicated plan: focus on strict diet and exercise.

During the podcast, Poehler observed that many people of their generation grew up unaware of food sensitivities. Damon agreed, reflecting on how he had stopped consuming gluten, unaware of how it affected him until recently. Despite his fondness for foods containing gluten, such as bread and beer, Damon prioritizes how much better he feels without them.

The need for this change comes partly from Damon’s portrayal of Odysseus, where Nolan’s direction for the character leaned towards lean yet strong. Damon adhered strictly to dietary guidelines, working with a personal trainer to maintain focus on his objectives.

Damon’s preparation for ‘The Odyssey’ echoes his earlier career efforts, such as his extreme weight loss for ‘Courage Under Fire’ in 1996, shedding between 40-50 pounds. A doctor warned him of potential heart damage, indicating the risks involved when achieving drastic weight changes. His approach today seems healthier and balanced, prioritizing well-being alongside professional requirements.
