Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams has been selected as a starter for the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game, set to take place in Chicago on July 25. This marks her second All-Star selection, but it’s her first time being voted as a starter.
Williams, age 29, recently exited a game against the Toronto Tempo on July 8 due to a back contusion, leading to concerns about her participation in the All-Star Game. The injury happened during the Valkyries’ win over Toronto, with the team stating she was out for the rest of the game, based on a report from Kenzo Fukuda.
Back injuries can be challenging, as demonstrated by Caitlin Clark’s struggles this season. However, Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase minimized any long-term worries, stating, “I actually did not check with medical, but she was smiling, so that’s all I can say,” according to Madisyn Cunningham.
This season, Williams leads the Valkyries in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. Her contributions have been vital to the team’s success. The Valkyries are currently on a six-game winning streak, and their record stands at 16-7. Alongside the Minnesota Lynx, who are 16-6, they are at the top of the league in wins, with the Las Vegas Aces close behind at 15-6.
In just their second season, the Valkyries continue to impress. Last year, they made WNBA history by reaching the playoffs in their inaugural season. This year, they are establishing themselves as serious contenders for the championship this fall.
