Dave Matthews Criticizes ICE After Concert Incident

During a concert on Friday, Dave Matthews, lead singer of the Dave Matthews Band, criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, referring to them as “a–holes.” Matthews expressed concern over the violence and rationale used to justify harmful actions.

In a video clip from the concert, Matthews wondered why society continues to make excuses for violence. He remarked, “I don’t know why we let people make excuses for why we should kill each other… There’s always reasons that we should kill each other.” Matthews reflected on whether humanity had always been inclined this way, saying, “Maybe we’ve always been like this, we just got better at making things that can kill each other.”

Matthews also addressed an incident involving Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a person who was shot by ICE agents in Houston. He stated, “I wanted to say his name… this father and grandfather who was murdered by ICE in Houston, Texas. And then they say he’s not even the guy they were looking for. Well, then don’t pull the trigger, you a–holes.” Matthews added an apology for his language, explaining it reflected his emotions over the event.

ICE reported that Araujo, a Mexican citizen, was shot after allegedly attempting to hit officers with his vehicle during an operation. The incident occurred while ICE officers attempted a traffic stop.

Matthews has previously spoken against ICE actions. Following the death of activist Renee Good in Minneapolis in an altercation with ICE agents, he voiced his opposition on Instagram. Matthews stated, “I don’t want my taxes to pay for ICE, to masked thugs to roam our streets and terrorize our communities and rip families apart.”

He criticized the approach of using force and urged society to take care of each other instead. Matthews referenced Renee Nicole Good, who was killed during an altercation, questioning the narratives being presented by the authorities.

A vigil took place in Houston for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, where attendees held signs calling for ICE to leave the city. Fox News Digital reached out to ICE for comments but did not receive an immediate response.
