India and Bangladesh, traditionally friendly neighbors, are currently facing tensions along their extensive shared border. The border stretches roughly 2,500 miles and has become a focal point for serious disputes involving migrants.

**India’s Actions:** India has initiated a campaign to identify and deport immigrants it claims are in the country illegally. This includes individuals holding Bangladeshi papers or those suspected of being undocumented migrants from Bangladesh. These deportations, often conducted under cover of darkness, have led to increasing friction with Bangladesh.

“Those people were standing at the bank of the river, which is inside Bangladesh,” reported Motiar Rahman, a local resident.

Armed Bangladeshi guards detained a man, three women, and a child who had crossed into the village, reportedly from the Indian state of West Bengal. Village fishermen spotted them crossing in the pre-dawn hours.

The group was held in a buffer zone between the two nations while Indian and Bangladeshi border guards determined their fate. During this time, hundreds of onlookers gathered to witness the proceedings.
