Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Undergoes Repairs Amid Vandalism Allegations

3 weeks ago 0

President Trump announced on Monday that the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has been drained for repairs after claims of vandalism. He stated on Truth social, “We drained the beautiful ‘Reflecting Pool’ today in order to fix the scars and damage that was done by the Vandals two weeks ago.” The Parks Department emptied the pool to repair its water-tight basin and plans to refill it soon.

This action is part of Trump’s initiative to renovate the Reflecting Pool for the nation’s 250th birthday. The renovation faced challenges this summer, with the water turning fluorescent green due to algae and tears appearing in the pool’s new surface.

The National Park Service indicated that the damage, reportedly caused by a sharp instrument, contradicts the president’s claim of vandalism by external parties. Arrests have been made relating to the Reflecting Pool incidents. U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn pleaded not guilty after being accused of damaging the pool’s sealant during a long bike ride. Hearn claimed his actions were out of curiosity, not malice.

Trump emphasized that those responsible must face consequences. He described extensive slashes on the pool’s surface, blaming them on “thugs.” The administration postponed repairs until after the July 4th festivities.

When questioned in June about evidence of vandalism, Trump promised it would be revealed in court and suggested contacting the Parks Department or the Department of Interior for more information.
