Attorney efforts to prevent the release of funds to writer E. Jean Carroll have been unsuccessful. Carroll has successfully collected her $5 million judgment from President Donald Trump. This comes over three years after a jury determined Trump was liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, according to court documents.
The funds, previously held in a court escrow account, have been released to Carroll’s lawyers. The final amount, including interest, totaled $5,625,005.48.
The legal battle originated from a 2022 lawsuit Carroll filed in New York. She alleged that Trump sexually assaulted her in a dressing room at a Manhattan department store following a random encounter in 1996. After she went public with her allegations in 2019, Trump reportedly defamed her. Trump, however, asserts that he does not know Carroll and denies any misconduct.
