Texas Hit by Severe Flooding and Extreme Weather Conditions

Central Texas has faced treacherous conditions with torrential rain leading to dangerous flash flooding. Emergency services have been busily rescuing dozens of individuals from escalating floodwaters. A video captured Texas Game Wardens wading through waist-deep water to save a family, including a young child, as their home was rapidly surrounded by water.

Authorities reported that more than 40 people have been evacuated from homes, submerged vehicles, and cars swept off the roads. Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed the death of at least one person due to the flooding.

In Uvalde, police advised residents near the Leona River to seek higher ground as the river overflowed, posing a threat of a 20-foot wall of water potentially inundating the city.

Community Impact

Since Monday, over a foot of rain has poured down in areas of Texas, falling at rates as high as 3 inches per hour. This relentless downpour has submerged roads and vehicles.

“It was bad,” said Ryan Whaley from Boerne, observing floodwaters rushing down a street. “All this was underwater, and that’s when the game wardens arrived, deploying their boats down the river as the water levels rapidly rose.”

The Boerne Fire Department successfully rescued a woman from floodwaters on July 15, 2026. Normally, the Medina River is ankle-deep, but it has risen significantly due to rainfall and contributing creeks and springs. Floodwater has been powerful enough to carry deer down one flooded creek.

Serious Threat

Chris Shadrock, Boerne’s director of communications, warned via social media about the severity of the floods, noting conditions unmatched since 2015. The storm could deliver half a year’s worth of rain in mere days.

Alongside flooding, the storm system produced a tornado near San Antonio, resulting in sparking transformers close to a busy highway. With winds reaching 100 mph, the storm inflicted serious damage, impacting businesses and tearing roofs off apartment buildings.
