Escalating Tensions in the Middle East: Iran and U.S. Engage in Strikes

Iran’s Military Actions

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reported strikes on U.S. military facilities in the Middle East, including Syria, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Jordan. However, U.S. officials have not confirmed these claims. The Guard claimed strikes on a U.S. special forces base in Syria and a base in Kuwait, alleging significant damage and casualties.

In addition, Iran claimed to target U.S. radar on Oman’s Salamah Rocks and bases in Bahrain and Jordan. Kuwait reported Iranian strikes hit power and water facilities, while a child in Qatar was injured by shrapnel from an intercepted weapon.

Shipping Concerns in the Strait of Hormuz

The collapse of the ceasefire has deterred shipping crews from navigating the Strait of Hormuz. Dimitris Maniatis, CEO of a Greek risk management firm, highlighted increased risks and attacks on vessels in the region. This situation has driven oil prices higher, with Brent crude reaching approximately $85 per barrel and U.S. crude just under $80.

U.S. Strikes on Iran

The U.S. carried out its sixth consecutive night of strikes on Iran after the ceasefire collapsed. U.S. Central Command confirmed strikes targeted Iranian surveillance, air defense, logistics, and maritime sites. Over 50,000 U.S. personnel are deployed across the Middle East.

Iran Reports U.S. Attacks

Iranian media reported U.S. strikes hitting an airport, a railway station, and bridges, resulting in three deaths. Strikes in Hormozgan province wounded nine people, and attacks in Bushehr also caused injuries. Iranian media reported explosions around Iranshahr airport.

U.S. Blockade and Compliance Efforts

U.S. Marines boarded a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman to enforce a blockade of Iranian ports. Since the blockade began, the U.S. diverted three commercial vessels and disabled an oil tanker.

Ongoing U.S.-Iran Dialogue

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated the U.S. continues talks with Iran despite ongoing military actions. She emphasized the strikes result from Iran’s breach of a memorandum not to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Leavitt reiterated President Trump’s commitment to hold Iran accountable for acts of terrorism in the region.
