NFL Suspends Cardinals Executive Ryan Gold for Gambling Policy Violation

The NFL has indefinitely suspended Ryan Gold, an executive with the Arizona Cardinals, due to violations of the league’s gambling policy. An investigation concluded that Gold shared confidential information about the Cardinals’ 2026 draft picks before official announcements. He also engaged in parlay betting on NFL and college events.

The NFL did not disclose the recipients of Gold’s information. The league’s gambling policy strictly prohibits any NFL personnel from participating in sports gambling or disclosing non-public information. “There is no indication that the integrity of any NFL game was compromised,” the NFL stated. “However, violations of the Gambling Policy are taken very seriously.”

The Cardinals released a statement acknowledging the incident, expressing full support for the NFL’s decision. They emphasized the clarity and consistency of NFL policies and their commitment to preparing for the upcoming training camp and the 2026 season.

Ryan Gold, in his 13th season with the Cardinals, recently became the director of college scouting in June 2025. Prior roles include assistant director of college scouting from 2022 to 2024 and college scouting coordinator from 2018 to 2021.

Gold retains the right to appeal his suspension. He was unavailable for immediate comment following the announcement. The NFL maintains strict gambling rules applicable to players and staff, leveraging extensive education programs that reach over 20,000 people connected to the league annually.

According to the policy, players are prohibited from:

• Betting on NFL games
• Manipulating or attempting to manipulate the outcome of NFL events
• Sharing confidential information related to NFL events

While players can legally bet on other sports, as long as they are off club premises, NFL or club personnel cannot do so. They may also participate in fantasy football if prize amounts stay below $250. Additionally, players may gamble at casinos during their personal time.

The NFL confirmed that the Cardinals fully cooperated with the investigation and found no evidence suggesting any other team member, coach, or player engaged in similar activities. Interviews and examination of electronic records formed part of this review.

Sports gambling violations have led to suspensions of at least 15 players since 1963, including Isaiah Rodgers in June 2023. This case adds to the league’s ongoing efforts to uphold its gambling standards.
