Arizona Cardinals’ Travis Vokolek Retires Due to Neck Injury

The Arizona Cardinals experienced a significant change on their roster this Wednesday. Tight end Travis Vokolek announced his retirement from football at the age of 28, following a neck injury sustained during a game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Vokolek was involved in a collision while blocking during a kickoff, which led to an awkward landing. The severity of his injury required him to be carried off the field on a stretcher. In response to medical advice, Vokolek shared his decision to retire on social media.

“After numerous visits with doctors and neurologists over the past couple of months, I have been advised to medically retire from the NFL due to a serious neck injury that I suffered this past season,” he wrote.

Vokolek expressed his gratitude for having the chance to fulfill his childhood dream of playing football professionally for three years. He acknowledged the life lessons and memories the sport offered him.

He offered thanks to his teammates, coaches, and training staff, particularly praising the Arizona Cardinals’ training team for their exceptional support during his challenging time.

Vokolek highlighted his wife’s unwavering support during his recovery process: “I have attacked every day of being a professional football player with passion, determination, and discipline. I can say that I truly left everything out on the field.”

His career began with college football at Rutgers and Nebraska, leading to his signing with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Although he didn’t play with the Ravens, he joined the Cardinals later that year and participated in eight games, although he was not significantly active in the team’s offense.
