Federal Court Allows Scholar to Stay on Bond

2 weeks ago 0

Badar Khan Suri, an Indian national and researcher at Georgetown University, claims he was unjustly targeted by immigration authorities due to his family’s advocacy for Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

On May 14, 2025, Suri was reunited with his wife, Mapheze Saleh, at Washington Dulles International Airport. This followed a judge’s order for his release from a Texas immigration detention center.

A federal appeals court has now decided to permit Suri to remain free on bond. This decision comes after he was abruptly taken from his home in Virginia by federal immigration officers last year. Suri had been transferred between several detention facilities during that period.
