Santa Clara County sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred at a large party in Morgan Hill on Saturday, resulting in one death and injuries to seven others, as reported by authorities.
Deputies responded to disturbance calls at approximately 10:15 p.m., which involved reports of intoxicated individuals in the street and incidents of bottle-throwing at cars. According to Brooks Jarosz from the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find a chaotic scene with over 300 people fleeing after shots were fired.
Several people suffered gunshot wounds and required medical attention. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
No suspects have been apprehended immediately following the incident.
“This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable,” stated Sheriff Robert Jonsen.
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, those recovering from injuries, and everyone in the community affected by the event.
Authorities noted the event as an “unsanctioned party” that had been promoted via social media channels.
