Jacob Morley, a 28-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for murder, was recently recaptured in Missouri after escaping from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tennessee. The escape occurred late on October 25, and Morley’s absence was not discovered until a routine nighttime roll call.
Officials from the Tennessee Department of Correction announced Morley’s recapture on social media. They expressed gratitude towards law enforcement partners and the public for aiding in the effort to locate him. Morley was seen on prison security footage fleeing through a perimeter fence and was later caught on nearby surveillance stealing a pickup truck.
The Associated Press confirmed that the stolen white pickup truck was found abandoned in Marion, Illinois, about 120 miles from the prison. Morley’s original sentence stemmed from his 2022 conviction for murdering his co-worker, Cody Birchfield. He had buried Birchfield’s body beneath his own home.
Diana Reid, a friend of Birchfield, voiced her concerns to Fox News before Morley was caught, fearing that he might harm others while at large. She described him as extremely dangerous due to his past actions.
