Tadej Pogacar Clinches Fifth Tour de France Title

Tadej Pogacar has solidified his place in cycling history with a fifth Tour de France title win. At 27, the Slovenian cyclist continues to impress with daring mountain attacks, stage victories, and steady composure.

Pogacar joined cycling legends Eddy Merckx, Miguel Indurain, Jacques Anquetil, and Bernard Hinault as one of the few to achieve five Tour wins.

I’m speechless. It’s an incredible day, there was an incredible atmosphere. Pogacar expressed his joy after the victory. I’ve ridden seven Tours already and I’ve always finished on the podium.

In the 21st and final stage in Paris, Pogacar maintained his lead, finishing 6 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel. Jonas Vingegaard, a prior contender, crashed out during the 15th stage.

Shame that Jonas and others crashed out of this Tour, Pogacar commented, highlighting his eagerness to compete again next year.

Isaac Del Toro, Pogacar’s Emirati team UAE Team Emirates XRG member, placed third, trailing by 9:42. Pogacar and his teammates celebrated on the Champs-Élysées.

Pogacar won a total of 26 stages, with his most recent attempt thwarted by Mathieu van der Poel, who claimed the final stage, marking his fourth overall win.

This year’s final stage, at 88.7 kilometers, featured more dynamic climbs through Montmartre than previous years. The competitive cycling on Rue Lepic engaged the audience as Van der Poel and others vied for the lead. Despite Pogacar’s challenge, Van der Poel outpaced the sprinters to secure his victory.

Van der Poel, known for his achievements in single-day classics and Cyclo-cross world titles, has extended his cycling legacy with another Tour stage win. He expressed surprise at maintaining the lead against formidable sprinters.

Van der Poel’s cycling pedigree includes his father Adri van der Poel’s victories and his grandfather Raymond Poulidor’s career highlights in the Tour.

The Women’s Tour de France is set to begin on August 1, starting in Lausanne, Switzerland, and concluding in Nice on August 9. Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt won the inaugural event last year.
