President Donald Trump took the spotlight at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, delivering a series of sharp jokes and criticisms. Among his targets were Robert F. Kennedy Jr., late-night television hosts, and Rep. Adam Schiff. Christina Coleman from Fox News detailed the memorable moments, emphasizing Trump’s humorous and critical commentary during the rescheduled event.

A transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, responded after Trump compared them to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins at the WHCA Dinner. Mulvaney considered the mockery a compliment, saying, ‘Maybe being publicly mocked and criticized by this administration is like the greatest compliment of all. Because it puts me in the company of some of the most brilliant, empathetic people in our world today.’

Mulvaney, notable in the United States for their influence on social media, had maintained a low profile after a controversial advertising campaign with a major beer company. This campaign led to a significant backlash and a loss in market cap for Anheuser-Busch following their promotion with Mulvaney.

Trump remarked, ‘I thought Kaitlan Collins had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but then I informed her that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney.’

In 2023, Bud Light chose Mulvaney for a March Madness promotion, which led to a lengthy boycott and financial repercussions for the brand. Mulvaney commented, ‘To the president, thank you for reminding me that I am more powerful than I even knew.’ Mulvaney also quoted their favorite artist, Shea Diamond, ‘I am America.’

Trump dedicated over an hour at the WHCA Dinner to take jabs at Collins, comparing her to Mulvaney and questioning her demeanor. He said, ‘Kaitlan, do you ever smile? Smile. You have a nice position. You’re at CNN — fake news. You should be a happy person. So smile, Kaitlan. Just smile.’

Collins, who had received the WHCA Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage for her reporting on a challenging Oval Office meeting between President Zelenskyy and Trump, appeared to respond on Instagram. She shared a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, ‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.’

CNN issued a statement, defending Collins and asserting their commitment to journalism without governmental interference. The statement emphasized, ‘Honest, accurate journalism may sometimes irritate politicians, but our right to report and present that reporting to the public without government interference is fully protected by the U.S. Constitution. CNN will continue to exercise this right.’
