Fire Devastates Village in Southwestern France

1 week ago 0

Guillaume Bos shared his experience of witnessing a fire engulf his village in the Gironde region of southwestern France, which has been severely affected by wildfires. Surrounding his home, the landscape was bleak. He explained, everything is burned as far as the eye can see.

The situation was described as a real disaster by 36-year-old Bos, a business manager and forest owner residing in Le Temple, a village located approximately 18 miles west of Bordeaux. The fires have persisted for several days, driven by unusually hot and dry weather, challenging firefighters’ efforts to contain them.

Mr. Bos noted that he received an evacuation order on Friday afternoon. However, like many other locals, he decided to stay and assist farmers and forest owners in battling the flames. His wife and son evacuated the area for their safety. When your wife and son leave, and you don’t know how things are going to turn out — yeah, it’s not easy, he admitted.

Through coordinated efforts using tractors and trailers filled with water tanks, Bos and his friends managed to save most of the homes in the village center. Sadly, about six houses were lost, along with the majority of the surrounding pine forest. Although the immediate threat has diminished, they continue to spray water around Le Temple to prevent the fire from reigniting.
