Engler’s Transition Back Home

Oswego native Hadley Engler made the switch to Benet Academy as a freshman, but the daily commute soon led her back to Oswego High School. “I wanted to get back home,” Engler expressed, citing the challenges of the travel. Her return has been warmly received, as she said, “I definitely feel welcomed.”

Engler’s Impact on the Volleyball Court

Engler debuted as a sophomore middle hitter for Oswego in their opening match against Waubonsie Valley, showing her skill in volleyball despite focusing primarily on basketball during the off-season. Oswego clinched a 25-19, 25-19 nonconference victory, with Engler’s four kills making an immediate impact alongside Dayton-bound senior Hannah Herrick and junior Sarah Gilio.

Waubonsie’s standouts included Ava Edozien with five kills, while Anna Axelsen and Belle Black contributed three kills each. Engler’s off-season volleyball practice included playing sand volleyball twice weekly, complemented by gym sessions. Her swift integration into the team impressed Oswego coach Gary Mosley, who noted, “She was ready to go from day one.”

Building Chemistry and Connections

Engler’s local roots helped maintain team chemistry despite her brief time away. “They’ve been really nice,” she shared about her teammates, highlighting her strong connection with setter Elaina Massie and her successful integration into the team dynamics.

Engler’s initial game performance was impactful. Her first kill extended Oswego’s lead to 12-6, showcasing her immediate influence on the front row. Despite Waubonsie’s fight for a tie in the second game, Oswego capitalized on errors and kills, overcoming challenges noted by Waubonsie coach Noel Soto.

Mosley commended Engler’s seamless fit into the team’s lively energy, bolstered by her athletic attributes. “She fits right in,” he remarked, praising her outgoing nature and physical capabilities like her impressive bounce.

Engler’s natural athleticism stands out, with Mosley emphasizing her movement across the court. While seeking to refine her footwork, Engler’s innate prowess promises to enhance her contributions to the team.

Looking ahead, Engler is optimistic about Oswego’s potential, stating, “I’m really excited for us.”
