On Friday, LeBron James ended his widely-followed free agency by announcing his decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers. This move brings him to a team with a storied NBA history, famously home to legends like Allen Iverson.

Iverson, a pivotal figure in the franchise for 12 seasons, expressed his excitement on Tuesday during an appearance on “The Stephen A. Smith Show.” He remarked, “I’m ecstatic that James chose to play for the team I once called home.” He emphasized that James’ presence is a boon for both the city and the team, describing him as “the answer” and acknowledging the multitude of skills and character traits James brings to the table.

LeBron’s decision concludes as he wraps up his eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. At 41, James opted to join the 76ers over other notable teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors. His contract spans two years, carrying a veteran-minimum salary of $8 million, marking the beginning of his 24th NBA season.

James now joins a roster filled with promising talent, including Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe.

Allen Iverson conveyed strong sentiments regarding the team’s ambitions, stating, “With James on the roster, it’s championship or bust for the 76ers.” He highlighted James’ unique ability to elevate any team’s championship prospects, referring to him as “The King,” a testament to his influential presence in the sport.
