Russia initiated a ballistic missile assault on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, early Thursday, resulting in numerous explosions as reported by Ukrainian officials.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko advised residents to find safety as explosions reverberated throughout the city. A witness, cited by Reuters, confirmed the sounds of multiple detonations. The Ukrainian Air Force also indicated that Russia targeted Kyiv with ballistic missiles.

Mayor Klitschko later reported that several non-residential sites were set ablaze following the missile strikes. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The attack came mere hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned about Russia’s possible preparation for a significant overnight assault.
Zelenskyy shared on X that Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko had informed him of Russia’s plan for a ‘massive attack prepared days in advance,’ with a strong likelihood of execution overnight.

Zelenskyy stressed the importance of international partners understanding the situation and how crucial life protection depends on their preparedness to assist by supplying air defense missiles.
The Ukrainian president’s remarks followed his return from the United States, where he met with President Donald Trump. At the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump announced that the U.S. would allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot air defense systems, according to The Associated Press.
Zelenskyy emphasized, ‘This primarily concerns the United States and other partners that possess Patriot missiles and can supply them for our defense.’ He asserted, ‘Every partner knows what is needed and fully understands the consequences of any delay.’
