Jordan’s air defenses intercepted five missiles launched from Iran on Thursday morning. The country’s state-run Petra news agency confirmed this incident shortly after the U.S. military announced extensive strikes against Iran. The U.S. attacks targeted several sites linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, including military command centers and missile facilities. These actions followed an Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Jordan.
No injuries were reported from the missile interceptions by Jordan. A spokesman for Jordan’s armed forces provided this information. In a social media announcement, the U.S. Central Command stated that strikes lasted over two hours and affected numerous Iranian sites.
President Donald Trump had earlier promised significant retaliation against Iran following the initial attack on the Jordanian base. According to Iranian state media, two individuals sustained injuries on Qeshm Island. Additionally, explosions were reported in Khuzestan province.
On a separate front, the U.S., in collaboration with Saudi Arabia, launched attacks on Iran-backed militias in Iraq. These strikes resulted in the deaths of at least 20 fighters and six Iranian advisers.
In Egypt, drone strikes caused fires on two natural gas vessels at the port of Damietta. A British maritime security firm, Ambrey, reported this incident. It remains unclear who conducted these drone attacks on the U.S.-owned storage facility and the Greek-owned tanker, and no injuries were reported.
The recent escalation follows several days of relative calm. These developments raise concerns about a potential return to all-out war. The ongoing conflict, now in its fifth month, has significant implications for the global economy and has been unpopular among the American public. The renewed hostilities could further deplete U.S. stockpiles of advanced munitions needed to protect its interests and allies.
