Dr. Anthony Fauci pleaded the Fifth Amendment 111 times during a Senate hearing on COVID-19 origins. Senator Rand Paul, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, is seeking to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress. Paul’s concerns stem from Fauci’s diary entry from January 2020, which suggested the wet market amplified the virus but wasn’t its source.
The hearing caught the attention of Philadelphia Eagles coach Vic Fangio. During a news conference, Fangio referred to Fauci’s actions, saying, “I’m going to be like Fauci and just take the Fifth Amendment on your question.” He had watched parts of the hearings where Fauci had refused to answer questions to avoid self-incrimination.
Dr. Fauci, 85, was subpoenaed by Sen. Paul, who accused him of covering up the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and allegedly contributing to it through research funding in Wuhan, China, where the outbreak began. Paul has released over 1,000 pages of Fauci’s diary entries from the pandemic period.
Despite these accusations and a pardon from President Joe Biden, Fauci refused to answer even basic questions, including those about personal items like the color of his tie. Fangio, though not watching the entire hearing, was intrigued by the events and their highlights.
