In Tucson, Arizona, investigators are facing challenges in obtaining a DNA profile from a hair sample found in Nancy Guthrie’s home. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared these difficulties in an interview. The case of Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared in February 2026, is approaching its six-month mark. Sheriff Nanos noted that although a hair sample was discovered, DNA testing did not yield a profile.
The investigation is involving the FBI, and the hair sample was sent to a California laboratory for further DNA analysis. Unfortunately, the lab results did not provide any DNA profile. “It came back … there’s no DNA,” said Nanos. This result does not conclusively indicate that the hair is not linked to a suspect. Investigators have retained the sample for potential future analysis.
Authorities released an image, provided by the FBI, showing an armed individual tampering with a camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door on the morning of her disappearance. This image, along with a photo of Nancy Guthrie, was shared to aid public awareness in the ongoing investigation.
Although the DNA result was inconclusive, Sheriff Nanos pointed out that DNA testing remains critical in the case. He indicated that work continues with several crime labs analyzing multiple samples from Guthrie’s home. The investigative team is also employing genetic genealogy research to explore potential leads.
A reward exceeding $1.2 million is available for information leading to a resolution. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos expressed belief in discovering new leads, noting the family’s confidence that someone knows crucial information about the case. He encouraged individuals with information to contact authorities.
The FBI released a description of at least one suspect captured by Guthrie’s Nest doorbell camera. This individual is described as being between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build. He wore a mask, long sleeves, and gloves, carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack.
