President Donald Trump landed at Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey after a visit to Camp David. Gaudyled by recent events, Trump took to social media to announce significant developments in U.S.-Middle East relations on Saturday.
Trump claimed on social media that Iran and other Middle Eastern nations asked the U.S. to postpone any potential attack on Iran following an agreement on deal terms. Prior reports indicated U.S. and Israeli plans were targeting Iran’s energy sector over the weekend.
In his post, Trump stated that the U.S. is prepared for action against Iran. However, negotiations have led to a temporary cancellation of military actions, allowing time for a possible deal. Israel is reportedly part of this arrangement as well.
The proposed deal, according to Trump, entails the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear program. Iran maintains its nuclear activities solely serve peaceful purposes. At the time of the announcement, Iranian authorities had not officially responded.
Iran’s Mehr news agency reported skepticism towards Trump’s remarks, labeling them as false based on unnamed military officials’ views.
Unpredictable shifts in U.S. and Israeli policies towards Iran have been evident, especially since the onset of conflict seen in February. An Associated Press poll this week revealed that around two-thirds of the U.S. population believes the war is unwarranted.
