Sen. Bernie Sanders Criticizes Sen. John Fetterman Over Disconnected Views

Senator Bernie Sanders, representing Vermont, expressed strong disapproval of Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania, labeling him as “way out of touch” with American citizens. This criticism emerged following Fetterman’s recent remarks accusing Sanders of lacking remorse for his support of the controversial former Senate nominee from Maine, Graham Platner.

In response, Sanders referenced Fetterman’s popularity among Pennsylvania Democrats, asserting that Fetterman’s viewpoints, particularly concerning Israel, were not in alignment with voters. During an appearance on “Meet the Press,” Sanders commented, “Well, my response to Fetterman is last time I saw it, he was reflecting the views of about 19% of the Democrats in the state of Pennsylvania.” Sanders emphasized this disconnection, stating, “I think probably lower than any other member of the Democratic Senate. Fetterman does his thing, and I think, on Israel, and many other issues, is way out of touch with the people of America.”

A survey conducted by Quinnipiac University in July showed that only 19% of Pennsylvania Democrats approved of Fetterman’s performance, while a significant 69% disapproved. Interestingly, 77% of Republicans indicated approval of Fetterman, resulting in an overall approval rating of 48% among registered voters.

Fetterman’s office, when contacted about Sanders’ comments, referred Fox News Digital to his previous statements shared with Semafor, where he strongly criticized Sanders regarding Platner’s campaign issues. Fetterman accused Sanders of endorsing Platner amidst multiple controversies, which eventually led to Platner withdrawing from the Senate race in Maine. Fetterman’s remarks included, “You were the carnival barker for an accused rapist. You should have taken my advice, since you and P-Hustle blew up the Maine race.” He added, “Take responsibility and apologize.”

Sen. John Fetterman expressed frustration over Sanders’ support of Platner, stating, “You know, why, why aren’t people angry why they promoted, you know, someone like Platner, an accused rapist.”

The disagreement between Sanders and Fetterman, centered around Platner and the Democratic Party’s stance on Israel, has been ongoing for months. A clip played by “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker showed Fetterman accusing Sanders of raising Platner’s profile despite the controversies surrounding him.

Fetterman expressed anger and confusion over Sanders’s endorsement of Platner, who faced allegations from a former girlfriend and was described by Fetterman as having “a Nazi tattoo on his chest.” He previously demanded Sanders apologize to Maine voters and to those who contributed to Platner’s campaign. Platner exited the race after denying the rape accusations brought against him.

Welker questioned Sanders about any regrets he might have about endorsing Platner pre-allegation. Sanders defended Platner’s campaign but acknowledged the gravity of the accusation leading to his withdrawal, saying, “Well, you know, it’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. Platner ran a very strong campaign and, in fact, many of the issues that he’s raised are resonating all over this country. A woman made very serious allegations against him, he withdrew from the race, period.”
