The possibility of the Washington Nationals trading shortstop CJ Abrams is slim. However, if such a trade were to happen, the Boston Red Sox are considered the likeliest destination. This insight comes from ESPN analysts Jeff Passan and Buster Olney.
If Abrams were to move, Boston would be the best bet, though the likelihood is minimal,
wrote Passan on Sunday.
Abrams, aged 25, appears to require a significant trade package for a move to occur. The Nationals are seeking both major league players and prospects in return.
Boston has shown interest in several shortstops, including the Cincinnati Reds’ Elly De La Cruz, Los Angeles Angels’ Zach Neto, and Miami Marlins’ Otto Lopez. According to Passan, Boston’s aggressive approach makes them the most likely to land one of these players. He noted there is at least a small chance that teams open to selling might consider a trade.
With the trade deadline approaching, teams must act swiftly to finalize decisions.
