Bronze Star Veteran Michael Bouchard Wins GOP Primary in Michigan

Michael Bouchard, a Bronze Star recipient and Republican congressional candidate, won the GOP primary in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District. His victory follows an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Republicans are optimistic that Bouchard’s credentials will keep the district under GOP control, as they fight to maintain their narrow majority in the House of Representatives.

The district remains competitive. John James, the incumbent, had previously defeated Democratic challenger Carl Marlinga. In 2024, James won by a margin of 51.1% to 45.0%. Two years earlier, he narrowly won 48.8% to 48.3%. James, opting to run for governor instead of seeking reelection, hopes to secure Michigan’s future prosperity.

Bouchard underscores his military service with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, having served in Iraq and at the U.S. southern border. Both he and James hold military backgrounds, further emphasized by Bouchard’s Bronze Star for his role against ISIS. Though new to politics, Bouchard aims to shift the country away from previous administration policies.

Bouchard uses his campaign to contrast leadership styles, stating, “Under President Trump, I led missions on the southern border; we got the job done. But on day one, Joe Biden shut us all down; he opened the border.” He criticizes current leadership, pointing to issues like human trafficking and drug smuggling.

Bouchard’s platform includes boosting American manufacturing, completing the southern border wall, and increasing parental involvement in education.

Trump endorsed Bouchard on Truth Social, describing him as a brave U.S. Army veteran with fighting spirit. Other notable endorsements include House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain. Bouchard now prepares for the general election on November 3rd.
