Ohio’s 7th Congressional District Faces Controversy as Max Miller Denies Abuse Allegations

Several Republican figures are being considered as potential replacements for Representative Max Miller in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District. This follows pressure arising from abuse allegations against him, which he denies. Although he has not been charged with any crime, the controversy stems from a legal confrontation with his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, over accusations of abuse involving her and their daughter.

Bernie Moreno Calls for Miller’s Resignation

Senator Bernie Moreno and Miller, who was once his son-in-law, exchanged barbs on social media. Moreno suggested that Miller should step down from the House of Representatives. In response, Miller accused Moreno of political motivations. He said that Moreno’s statements were defamatory and stressed his desire to set the record straight about his family.

Some Republican lawmakers have voiced support for Moreno or expressed concern over the allegations, which have gained attention as Ohio approaches a ballot deadline. Miller has until the deadline to remove himself from contention, potentially triggering a quick replacement primary for his House seat.

Amid reports of GOP senators urging his resignation, Miller refuted all accusations in a statement, emphasizing that neither the court system nor a court-appointed mediator have found any allegations against him to be substantiated.

Potential Republican Replacements

Should Miller exit the race, several Republicans are being mentioned as possible replacements. These include State Representative Mike Dovilla, a U.S. Navy veteran and former presidential appointee, former U.S. Representative Jim Renacci, State Representative Melanie Miller, and former State Senator Kevin Coughlin.

Renacci, who expressed willingness to consider running if Miller withdraws, acknowledged his political network and recognition in the district. However, he doubted that Miller would step down, stating his belief that Miller would remain in the race.

Miller’s Firm Denial

In a recent social media address, Miller strongly denied the abuse allegations and confirmed his intention to continue his reelection campaign. He highlighted the unsubstantiated nature of the claims and clarified no charges had been made against him.

Miller invited the public to review legal documents addressing the allegations, which his lawyers prepared. These documents were shared as part of his effort to clear his name.

Emily Moreno’s attorney responded critically to Miller’s denials, condemning his remarks as untruthful and hurtful to their family and stating there is evidence of his alleged violent behavior.
