Remains Found in Arizona Backyard as Police Search for Missing Parents

Authorities discovered the remains of two individuals in an Arizona backyard on Thursday during a search for missing parents. Their son is suspected of fleeing the country, according to police.

The son, Matthew Flores, 27, was initially included in a missing persons report filed Tuesday by concerned family members. Avondale police spokesperson Officer Daniel Benavidez provided this information.

When police conducted a welfare check at the residence in Litchfield Park, they detected signs of foul play. Officer Benavidez explained, “We identified a large amount of blood and evidence suggesting attempts to conceal it, leading us to suspect foul play.” Benavidez shared these details at a news conference held on Thursday.

The human remains found in the backyard had not been identified by Thursday afternoon. Recovery efforts involved assistance from the Phoenix police homicide unit, as stated by Benavidez.

“Family members anticipated finding the mother, father, and adult son at the residence where the remains were discovered,” Benavidez remarked.

Police withheld the parents’ names at the family’s request, who had reported them missing. The bodies were in a state of decomposition, but the exact duration of their presence in the backyard remains unclear.

Police have named Flores a suspect in the missing persons investigation. According to Benavidez, authorities have leads in the search for Flores and are appealing to the public for information about his whereabouts or activities.

Benavidez did not specify the country to which Flores is thought to have fled, stating only, “All I can say is that he fled the country.”
