Democratic Attorney Criticizes Michigan Senate Nominee El-Sayed, Backs Republican Rival

Julian Epstein, a seasoned Democratic attorney, opposes Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. Epstein, who previously served as chief legal counsel for House Democrats during the Clinton impeachment and later worked with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, published an op-ed in The New York Post endorsing El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Mike Rogers.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Epstein explained that his decision to support Rogers represents a significant shift in his political stance. “The Democrats have gone off the deep end,” Epstein stated. He believes that the party has moved too far left and is embracing radical positions.

“There’s no room in the tent for people who don’t respect our Constitution, align with radical Islam, or propagate antisemitism,” Epstein said.

Epstein criticized the Democratic Party for losing its moral center and moving left of the median voter. He warned that this shift might cause a significant number of Democrats to defect. Praising Rogers as a pragmatic figure, Epstein described him as someone who aligns with Democratic values from the Clinton era.

On Tuesday, El-Sayed narrowly defeated Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens in the Democratic primary. Stevens, an establishment favorite, campaigned on progressive views but supported Israel. Although prominent Democrats back El-Sayed, voter support from Stevens’ base remains uncertain.

Epstein argued in his op-ed that Rogers will be able to “paint a devastating portrait” of El-Sayed. He accused El-Sayed of embracing ideas similar to those of Sen. Bernie Sanders, focusing solely on wealth redistribution rather than creation. Epstein also criticized El-Sayed’s sympathy for terrorist movements and his stance on Israel.

Epstein wrote, “El-Sayed parrots Sanders’ delusion… sympathizes with terrorist movements… avoids offending Iran’s supporters… and denies Israel’s right to exist.”

Epstein also mentioned Hasan Piker, a campaign surrogate for El-Sayed, who has made controversial statements supporting oppressive regimes and figures. “Democrats can’t run from this lunacy in November,” Epstein concluded.
